Internships

Through internships within The Westin Dragonara Resort, trainees will gain first-hand experience in the hotel's operations. Our Hotel Internship Program allows you to truly experience the industry from the ground up, where our founders and many of our leaders began.

You will get immersed in Marriott's culture and business and find your true calling in the travel industry. By gaining hands-on experience in the exciting world of hotel management, you’ll be better prepared to pursue career opportunities in the near future.

ACCOUNTS PAYABLES INTERNSHIP 

  • Listing of daily complimentary chits and checking that they are authorised by the respective head of department
  • Listing of daily void and discount chits and getting signatures if these chits are not approved on the day
  • Checking of income and revenue of minor operating departments
  • Compiling excel sheet before submitting to the revenue plan

POOL CONCIERGE/GUEST RELATIONS INTERNSHIPS

  • Interacting with hotel guests experiencing the Hotel’s Pool areas, in order to identify and exceed their expectations, reflecting positively in GuestVoice targets, Medalia reviews and positive guest comments.
  • Supporting the Operations Executives in achieving the hotel goals in the area of guest satisfaction.
  • Giving a personal service to all hotels’ guests, whilst enabling them to experience the feeling of wellness and wellbeing.
  • Initiate conversation with the Guests  as well as Promotes Food & Beverage Venues and other Hotel Programs as well as handling guests’ requests or complaints as appropriate.
  • Other duties as determined by the company.


FOOD & BEVERAGE INTERNSHIPS

  • To provide an excellent service to guests experiencing the restaurants/bars and pool areas by discovering their needs and acting on these needs promptly and efficiently to ensure that their expectations are exceeded and standards are consistently maintained
  • Gives a personal service to all hotel’s guests, whilst enabling them to experience the feeling of wellness and wellbeing
  • Engages in guest interaction by following Westin Service Standards in order to make the guest feel welcome and special.
  • Supports the Manager and Supervisors in achieving the departmental goals especially in the area of guest satisfaction, including but not limited to GEI targets, Medallia reviews and positive guest comments.
  • Receives and carries out orders from Supervisor
  • Interacts in a courteous and professional manner with hotel’s guests and associates.

Purchasing & Cost Control

PURCHASING ADMINISTRATOR  

The selected applicant will work closely with the Senior Purchasing Executive to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the purchasing department.  The person will be responsible for the daily administration of the office , ensuring that all supplies and services are negotiated, ordered and delivered within the required time frames.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills including fluency in written and spoken English
  • A good command of IT systems with proficiency in MS Outlook and MS Excel
  • Should be hard working, organized, diligent, having a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Should have an outgoing personality and a strong resolve.

ACCOUNTS

ACCOUNTS CLERK 

The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate and clear records of transactions, for verifying and recording the transactions in accordance with the hotel’s established policies and procedures.  The selected applicant will assist his supervisor to perform the daily assigned accounting duties.

Applicants are expected to meet the following requirements: 

  • Minimum of Ordinary Level in Accounting
  • Conversant with Microsoft office applications and accounting software
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Hard working
  • Keen on pursuing a career in the Accounts department

CULINARY OPPORTUNITIES

SOUS CHEF

The position of Sous Chef has arisen within The Westin Dragonara Resort, a leading five star resort on the island.  In this role, the successful candidate will be assisting the Executive Chef with all kitchen operations, by being accountable for the overall success of the daily kitchen operations.  S/he will exhibit culinary talents by personally performing culinary tasks, while leading the kitchen staff and managing all food related functions.  

The selected applicant will work to continually improve guest satisfaction while maintaining the operating budget.   Other duties include the supervision of all the kitchen areas to ensure that a consistent and high quality product is produced, efficiency, and the responsibility for guiding and developing direct reports whilst ensuring the achievement of sanitation, culinary policies, standards and procedures.

The following requisites are deemed to be important in carrying out this role:

  • Higher Diploma in Culinary Arts/ Food Preparation & Production or related major
  • Minimum of 3 years’ work experience in a similar role in the Culinary area
  • In possession of strong leadership skills as well as sound interpersonal, verbal and written skills
  • Applicants must be organized,  excellent team players, professional and goal-oriented, capable to work in a fast paced and dynamic kitchen environment

 

CHEF TOURNANT - BREAKFAST SECTION

The position of Chef Tournant for the Breakfast section has arisen within The Westin Dragonara Resort, a leading five star resort on the island.  In this role, the successful candidate will be managing the breakfast section.  Other responsibilities will include the planning of menus and requirements, training and supervision of junior associates as well as HACCP procedures. 

The following requisites are deemed to be important in carrying out this role:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Culinary Arts/ Food Preparation & Production or equivalent
  • Previous  work experience in a similar role in the Culinary area
  • In possession of excellent supervisory skills

 

COMMIS CHEF

We are currently seeking to recruit Commis Chefs who will support the Chef de Partie or Demi Chef de Partie in the daily food preparation in order to meet the set standard and quality levels. 

Applicants should ideally be in possession of City & Guilds 706/1 or a Diploma/Certificate in Food Preparation & Production, coupled with a minimum of one year working experience in the field. 

 

SENIOR CHEFS DE PARTIE 

We are currently seeking to recruit Senior Chefs de Partie for the Breakfast, Sauce and Pastry sections.  The main function is to assist in the management of the assigned sections in order to prepare and provide high quality food in accordance to a consistent standard.

Ideally, applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • In possession of City & Guilds 706/1 & 706/2 or diploma/certificate in the field.
  • Previous work experience in a similar role.

 

DEMI CHEFS DE PARTIE

We are currently seeking to recruit Demi Chefs de Partie in the Breakfast and A la Carte Sections.  The main function is to assist in supervising the assigned sections of the kitchen in order to prepare and provide high quality food in accordance to a consistent standard.

Ideally, applicants should meet the following requirements:                     

  • In possession of City & Guilds 706/1 & 706/2 or diploma/certificate in the field.
  • Previous work experience in a similar role.

FOOD & BEVERAGE SERVICE

RESTAURANT MANAGER 

This position’s main function entails the management of the day-to-day operation of the Palio’s restaurant in order to continually improve guest and employee satisfaction and maximize the financial performance in areas of responsibility.

Other responsibilities include providing leadership, vision and direction whilst providing services that are above and beyond, for customers’ satisfaction and retention.  S/he will also ensure compliance with all food & beverage policies, standards and procedures.

Ideally, the successful applicant must possess the following requirements:

  • Work experience in a managerial/supervisory role together with a recognized qualification in this field
  • Leadership skills
  • Excellent Communications Skills
  • Computer Literacy
  • Decision making and problem solving skills

 

FOOD & BEVERAGE SERVERS

We are currently looking for Food & Beverage Servers on part-time basis. The main function includes the provision of an excellent guest service, by discovering all of our guests' needs and acting on these needs promptly, efficiently and with confidence to ensure that guests' expectations are exceeded and standards are consistently maintained.  

Ideally candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills including fluency in English
  • Having a positive attitude, high levels of motivation and enthusiasm
  • Willing to work different shifts which also include weekends and public holidays

WESTIN FAMILY KIDS CLUB

CHILD CARER & ANIMATORS 

The Child Carer will be responsible for taking care of young children and infants including feeding and/or serving meals.  S/he will organize and participate in activities including simple painting, drawing, handcrafts, games and reading.  S/he will also be responsible for assisting during kids parties whenever required.

The Animators will be responsible to entertain children during kids’ parties at the Westin Family Kids Club, whilst encouraging them to participate in all the activities taking place during the party. 

In performing this role, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Previous work experience with infants and toddlers
  • Having a passion to work with children
  • Be caring, creative, outgoing and responsible
  • Speak fluent English
  • The Diploma in Early Child Care and Education will be considered an asset for child caring

ENGINEERING & MAINTENANCE

ROOMS MAINTENANCE

The position calls for multi-skilled tradesman/handyman skilled in maintenance work including basic electrical installations, plumbing, carpentry, plastering and painting, tiling, general maintenance on general room fixtures, bathrooms, doors, apertures and furniture. Candidates will be required to work on shift basis, including weekends and public holidays.

The selected applicant must be able to work independently and to exercise initiative in order to ensure that the guest rooms are kept safe and well maintained to the highest standards commensurate with a top quality 5 star hotel.

Applicants should meet the following requirements: 

  • Applicable trade qualifications or proven experience
  • Pleasant personality
  • Fluency in English
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Previous work experience in a similar role will be considered an asset

BANQUETING

ASSISTANT BANQUETING MANAGER

The challenging position of Assistant Banqueting Manager is currently vacant.  This role calls for a dynamic individual who will be responsible for supporting the Banqueting Manager in managing effectively the Banquet Operation both within and outside the Resort.

Pro-active leadership and the development of the Banqueting Team are important aspects of this role in order to ensure profitability, Catering Experience Index and other key targets are achieved.

The successful applicant should meet the following requirements:

  • Previous work experience in a supervisory role
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Computer Literacy
  • A Diploma in a related field will also be considered an asset.

 

AUDIO VISUAL COORDINATOR

This role calls for a flexible and reliable person, who will be responsible for planning, implementing, setting up, dismantling and supporting all Audio-visual systems, as requested on BEO, by management and last minute requests by guests. The successful candidate will have to maintain good communication and information exchange with the Events, Banqueting and Maintenance Departments and with outsourced suppliers.

Appropriate systems management procedures and practices, together with adequate security procedures, have to be implemented and adhered to in order to ensure optimal operating effectiveness and the safeguarding of the Resort’s hardware and data.  

The successful applicant should possess the following requirements:

  • Work experience within hospitality operations
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Proficiency in the use of Computer
  • Problem Solving Techniques
  • Must be flexible to full-fill 7 days a-week; 24 hours a day call duty
  • Competency in setting-up Audio-Visual equipment

STEWARDING

STEWARD SUPERVISOR

The selected candidate will be responsible for the highest levels of cleanliness, hygiene and order as per HACCP requirements within the indicated kitchen and back of house areas. 

Ideally, the successful applicant must possess the following requirements:

  • A Minimum of one year experience in a similar role in a restaurant/ hotel kitchen

 

STEWARD

Responsible for cleaning and storing china, silverware, pots and pans and other restaurant items used in the food and beverage operations whilst maintaining kitchen and storage areas in a clean and orderly manner.  Responsible for the proper cleanliness of all kitchens and food preparation areas, including ovens, grills, stoves, hoods, fryers, tables and floors.


HOUSEKEEPING

PUBLIC AREA ATTENDANTS

Selected candidates will be responsible for keeping the resort’s public facilities including the lobby, front desk, restaurants and restrooms in a neat and clean condition.  Chosen candidates might be requested to deliver miscellaneous goods and supplies to guest rooms or guest floors and to move furniture, supplies or equipment.

Ideally applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Outgoing personality
  • Good communication skills
  • Fluency in English
  • Previous work experience in hospitality will be considered an asset


HOUSEKEEPING ROOM ATTENDANTS

The selected candidates will be responsible for cleaning guest Rooms in accordance with brand and hotel standards to allow a sufficient quantity of vacant and clean rooms, in order to ensure a safe and clean experience to our guests.  Candidates must be able to interact with guests in a courteous and friendly manner and to respond to guests’ questions, provide guest assistance and information as requested.
